Unveiling the visible and invisible: Psychoanalytic dynamics of magical realism in Stephen King's the outsider

Abstract

This research explores the psychoanalytic dynamics of Stephen King’s The Outsider (2018). Relating this psychological mindset of characters to Magical Realism the research unearths the secrets in investigating the nature of truth of a murder investigation. This research work incorporates the theory of psychoanalysis to explore horror and fantasy as contingent terms in the novel. The novel as a magical realist text connects the two realms in a remarkable manner and without any ambiguity. The normalization of supernatural elements residing at the core of the novel will be explored in this research. The mundane investigation in the novel is based upon the elements of natural and supernatural death, which exist at the rudimentary level of the text. Thus, binaries of Realism and Magical Realism as the core components of the novel will also be explored in this research.
